The Green Crew

What is it? The Green Crew is a collection of volunteers who make special effort to keep parking lots and entry areas clean, and thereby help keep venues and locals happy, Mother Nature stronger, and the future of Phish longer. Volunteers fill provided bags with trash and recyclables in the parking lots after shows.

To take part, meet up with Green Crew and Waterwheel folks, near the entrance and/or will call before a show, or at the Waterwheel table inside.

To help out, bring at least several empty trash bags (per show), keep your trash bagged and give bags to neighbors, and bag a few stray bottles or cans before you leave the lot.

History: The group was started in the spring of 1994, informally associated with "Greenpeace Henry" (Henry Schwab) and "Greenpeace Mike" (Mike Hayes), who toured with Phish manning a Greenpeace table and later moved to found the Waterwheel Foundation. Green Crew (never affiliated with Greenpeace itself) was later headed up by Shane Johnson (and Waterwheel's touring division was run by Chris Prang, starting in 2002).

"Phish is our community, and when we got into a town we know we don't own it. We try to be positive and responsible."
-- Shane Johnson, Spin Magazine 12/95 and Life 6/96" is a non-commercial project run by Phish fans and for Phish fans under the auspices of the all-volunteer, non-profit Mockingbird Foundation.

This project serves to compile, preserve, and protect encyclopedic information about Phish and their music.
